About the Food |
|

|
|
| |
What kinds of food does
Debbie Does Dinner
deliver?
We serve
a wide variety of foods from all over the world. Please
see the
sample menus
page.
Is
the food healthy?
We make
everything from scratch using high quality fresh ingredients
that are all natural or organic whenever possible. We
always offer at least one entrée that is healthy, nutritious
and delicious. Many comfort type food items are remade
into healthier versions, for example low carb zucchini manicotti
where zucchini replaces the traditional pasta.
Where are the ingredients from?
Our ingredients
are sourced from the same suppliers used by San Francisco’s
finest restaurants. We use seasonal, organic, local and sustainable
ingredients whenever possible; preservatives and additives are
never used.
Our meat
and poultry is all natural and free of hormones, antibiotics
and synthetic additives.
Our fish
and seafood are either wild or provided by suppliers using sustainable/responsible
farming methods.
Our produce
comes from local farmer’s markets as well as the San Francisco
Produce Market.
What size are the dinner portions?
Hearty!
Most
side dishes and non-lettuce salads are 8 oz portions.
Soups
are 16 oz portions.
Is the food pre-portioned or packaged family style?
Some
items, such as pot pies, are sold and packaged individually.
Other items, such as pumpkin ravioli gratin, are sold and packaged
according to size, i.e. small (serves 1-2), medium (serves 2-3)
or family size (serves 4-6). Other items, such as rice
or quinoa salad, are sold by the portion, but packaged family
style if more than one portion is ordered.
Are
the dinners delivered fresh or frozen?
All of
our food is made from scratch using the freshest ingredients
available. Some items, such as pot pies and turnovers, are delivered
frozen because they need to stay frozen. Otherwise, everything
else is delivered fresh. Most items are fully cooked and only
need to be reheated. Some items, such as fresh fish or marinated
meat need be fully cooked.
Meals
that freeze well should be frozen if not eaten within 3-4 days
of delivery.
Defrost
any items you choose to freeze overnight in the refrigerator
before heating.
How do I make sure Debbie Does Dinner does not use an ingredient
to which my family might be allergic?
When
you sign up to receive the weekly menus, we ask if there are
any food allergies or other dietary concerns we should be aware
of. We then put a note in your profile. If you ever
have any questions or concerns about a particular item, please
ask. We are happy to answer any and all questions and
will do our utmost to ensure your food safety.
Are
there vegetarian options?
Many
of our items are vegetarian. We also offer vegetarian
versions of our non-vegetarian items whenever possible.
What
containers will my food be in?
We use
recyclable and compostable containers whenever possible. Some
food comes in durable plastic microwave containers, which can
be washed and re-used or recycled. Feel free to send them back
(rinsed out please) and we will recycle them for you.
Some food comes in aluminum containers that go straight
into the oven. These can also go in your recycling bin. |
